Framatome Signs Significant Contracts with Sizewell C
On April 15, Framatome announced it had signed multi-billion euro contracts with Sizewell C Ltd., which is overseeing the construction of two EPR reactors in Suffolk, England. These contracts include, among other elements, the supply and commissioning of the nuclear boiler as well as the provision of fuel.
The United Kingdom is currently constructing two EPRs at Hinkley Point C, with a total capacity of 3.2 GW. The Sizewell C project, supported by the British government, aims to replicate this construction at Sizewell, 150 km northeast of London.
Framatome will be responsible for delivering the two nuclear boilers, from their design (replicating Hinkley Point C) and procurement through to their commissioning. The company will also provide the plant with safety control-command systems. Additionally, this includes a long-term fuel supply contract, as well as a long-term maintenance and service contract. “This signing follows the British government’s investment decision in November 2022 to approve the construction of two EPR reactors at Sizewell, on the Suffolk coast,” Framatome contextualised.
“Framatome is proud to continue supporting the UK’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 by delivering a replica of the Hinkley Point C project at Sizewell C. The project will benefit from the experience gained at Hinkley Point C, and our teams are committed to making it a success,” stated Bernard Fontana, CEO of Framatome. ■
