EDF Unveils New Nuclear Activities Organisation

EDF has unveiled its new organisation for nuclear activities. The evolution aims to group expertise and skills by major professions, industrialise methods, and enhance cross-functionality within the company.

It is a new segmentation by major professions that EDF implemented on April 1, 2024. “We are evolving our ways of working and our organisation to gain even more performance and ensure the success of our nuclear projects. It’s about being at the best level in each of our major professions,” expressed Luc Rémont, CEO of EDF, recalling nuclear projects in France and internationally with new EPRs and the SMR Nuward.

  • Directorate of Strategy, Technologies, Innovation, and Development

This directorate embodies the project ownership of nuclear construction projects, carries the development of nuclear power internationally, and constitutes the technical authority. It also guides and challenges the technological choices for the performance of the EDF group’s professions. Xavier Ursat is the Executive Director.

  • Directorate of Projects and Construction

This directorate ensures the project management of major new nuclear projects “according to the framework and objectives of safety, security, quality, costs, and deadlines until the transfer to the teams in charge of operation,” EDF specifies. Thierry Le Mouroux has been appointed Executive Director in charge of the Directorate of Projects and Construction.

  • Directorate of Engineering and Supply Chain

Alain Tranzer, previously General Delegate for Industrial Quality and Nuclear Competencies and in charge of the Excell plan’s management, has been appointed Group Executive Director in charge of the Directorate of Engineering and Supply Chain. The mission of this division is to deliver studies, equipment, and services on quality, costs, and deadlines, as well as harmonising methods, tools, and product/process standards for new projects and the existing fleet. This new directorate thus brings together nuclear engineering and activities related to suppliers.

  • Directorate of Nuclear and Thermal Production

Cédric Lewandowski has been reappointed as the Group Executive Director in charge of the Directorate of Nuclear and Thermal Production. This agency oversees the operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of existing nuclear and thermal parks and new projects put into service. It continues to deploy the Grand Carénage and START 2025 programs, in particular.

  • Industry and Services Pole

This pole pilots operational activities of design and studies, manufacturing, and industrial services for the nuclear boiler, fuel, and control command (Framatome). Bernard Fontana, who remains CEO of Framatome, is the Executive Director.

Finally, EDF detailed the reorganisation of the Directorate of Innovation, Corporate Responsibility, and Strategy (Dires). “The impact directorate will now be grouped with the financial directorate within a new directorate of performance, impact, investments, and finance. Xavier Girre is appointed Group Executive Director in charge of the directorate of performance, impact, investments, and finance. The directorate of regulations joins the General Secretariat, which has, among others, the responsibility of the legal directorate, public and European affairs. Brice Bohuon retains his activities as Group Executive Director in charge of the General Secretariat.”■
